Taking the 72 to CI3 Friday morning is looking dismal. Last week I replaced the starter, this week the ignition switch. I did get new shocks on it :)
Last night it ran great, everything seemed a-ok except for giving it a nice bath.
This morning it won't idle for crap  The air/fuel meter shows full lean and a poor ragged idle (used to show slight rich), and it poping out of the exhaust  When I parked it it idles at 700 like it was set to, now it barely ran at 500 .
WTF, so I disassmeble the Edelbrock carb, checked for dirt, blew out all the orifices, etc, etc, nothing changed. I did take it out on the road and it runs, but shakey and the a/f is showing full lean most all the time.
There's a regulator and gauge in line to the carb after the pump and filter set at 5 1/2 lbs which is where it has been for 4 years. The carb and the fuel line were full when I took it apart.
It acts like its intermittingly starving for gas, yet when I blew out the orifices they were clean, and when I took out the idle screws and shot carb cleaner in there the cleaner squirted out the idle ports like it should.
Are you sure the vacuum is okay? Did you check it?
Manifold vacuum dropped about 2 inches. But when I increase the rpm back to 700 the vacuum comes back, but it still runs rough as hell and still shows lean on the a/f gauge and the exhaust is popping..
