Default Fuel line question--

I need to replace the rubber hose between the fuel pump and the hardline on the frame rail. First question is, is that supposed to be a rubber hose or has bubba been in there?

Second question has to do with a thread I remember some time back about somebody who pulled a fuel line up around the engine bay and found himself (herself? I seem to remember it was one of the female vetters) with gas pouring all over him as it siphoned out of the tank. Is there a technique for avoiding that scenario? I was thinking about putting the front of the car on jackstands to try and get the tank at least level with the hose I'm pulling, but I'd like to know what you folks think.

Yes, there is supposed to be a rubber line there. It allows the engine to shake around while it is running and not split a steel line. As far as the fuel goes, get as much out of the tank as you can. Pinch the rubber line with Vice grips, remove from the pump. Attach new line to pump. Remove old line from hard line and plug with finger until you can get new line attached.

It's a rubber line. I replaced mine a few years back. Not a hard job but you will probably get some gas on you. I used the S-shaped molded hoses as they are less likely to kink than a generic piece of fuel line.
