What is this funny noise ?!?!?!
After driving last night, I noticed just before pulling it into the garage that I could hear a funny noise while the clutch was disengaged. This noise is a "popping" sound. Not metal to metal. It only happens when I start letting the clutch peddle out (moving the peddle toward the driver's seat), and before the clutch starts to engage. After the clutch is engaging, the noise goes away. It almost sounds like something is tapping the linkage or something needs to be oiled. I looked to see if something was in the way, but didn't see anything. Has anyone had experience with this?
I might add that this noise only appears when I am moving the clutch peddle. With the clutch engaged and the clutch peddle not moving, the noise goes away.

I would be suspicious of the throwout bearing. If it makes the noise continuously while the clutch is in mid-travel, the t.o. bearing is a likely candidate. I suppose there could be something like exhaust pipe interference that only happens when the clutch is in mid-travel, but that should be easy to spot or rule out. Just have someone push the clutch in and out slowly while you observe the linkage with a good light. If you don't see anything, then you're back to the t.o. bearing...
