Wisconsin has a neat setup for Collector Car plates. They are just blue and say "Collector" on them. You are assigned a number, so no vanity plates. Your car must be 20 years old and appear stock. You pay $140 once, and that is it. You don't have to pay again.

CT has "early american" plates, no restrictions and no emissions testing, for any car over 25 years old. You have to have a safety inspection one time (which is one time more than any other car in CT). The only bad thing is they have a picture of a "tin lizzie" on them. But they are white, which matches my car. Joe

Once again, Ohio seems to be the most expen$ive place to register a vehicle. I have a Collectors tag on my 79'. There are very few restrictions, however I get the pleasure of renewing mine for $70 EVERY YEAR. For another $15 every year, I can also have a vanity tag. :mad

In Minnesota, we can run collector plates (pretty ugly) or we can adopt origninal plates. If you find a set of original vintage plates and no one is using that particular plate number, you can adopt them. If you want to drive them as collector plates, you can install them "as is"; if you want to use them for a daily driver, you just have to install the registration sticker on them just like you would with normal plates. I run original 74 plates on my 74.
