I have a 76' that I'm putting the painless 18 ciruit gm kit in. The car originally had a/c and now I pulled it out. The heater switch is proving to be a big problem to wire up. Which wires going to the switch are a/c and which are heat? All I'm going to hook up is the heat. The painless kit only has one hot wire going to the heater switch. The a/c wires and the heater wires are hard to distinguish because they all intertwine and stuff.
My 74 had AC Bubba pulled the AC and then cut ALL the wires to the Heater control and blower. connected the hot to the blower switch Lt brown thats the off position, this feed all positions on ythe switch except hi which go's through a relay
Interesting. The only thing that I need is the relay(or resistor I think) and the Lt brown hot? This might be easier than I thought. With the A/C there is like 20 something wires going to the heater controller.
X, it's really simple, the lone brown wire going to the hvac controller is the one from the switched 25 amp fuse up on the block, that wire is the controll wire for everything except hi speed blower, so it does the lo speed blower power also, therefore....
SO the other wires going to the controller are various colors yellow, brown, blue and green as I recall.....they go to the resistor pack on top of the a/c blower box under the hood....4 terminal plug....this gives you the switch selected speeds.....another wire also goes to the hi speed relay, which closed and gives you full alternator power to the blower motor...that if fed with a thick orange wire from the driver's horn relay/power distribution point...
through a dedicated 30 amp fuse in the white holder....under the hood near the horn relay/terminal....
When I did my unit over, and redid a custom controll panel, A LA James Bond....I cut the number of speeds back to just two, so only used two wires to the controll circuits.....
don't forget to check for full system voltage at the blower motor, that the motor frame is properly grounded to the engine....
X, as I re read you question after posting there, I wonder if you have a rong idea there about the 'heat' function....it's a vacuum line to the heater water flow controll valve on pass side of engine....the entire system is vacuum controlled, not electrical..... that's except for the blower, obviously...
