Default Electric Fans

Who out there is running a single 16' fan? Is it in a shroud or just mounted up direct to the Rad? I am looking at purchasing a Spal 16 and wonder if it will be enough for my little 330 horse. I want to lose my mechanical direct drive as it squeals under rev. and I don't like the look of the clutch fan in my shiny engine compartment. Also, I like fan setup but not sure I need dual 10-12 fans and all the wiring that comes along for the ride. Currently running DeWitts radiator with no cooling issues!

I am running a single 16" electric fan. It is the Flex-a-lite 180 Xtreme series fan, comes with small shroud and attaches to the radiator. I got this model because of its high cooling capacity (3300 cfm) and low amperage draw. I have 600+ hp and with a 160 deg. themostat the temp. never exceeds 180 on the hottest days even idling in traffic.

This is it....http://www.summitracing.com/parts/FLX-180/?rtype=10

Hard to see, but here's a pic.....almost unnoticeable attached to back of radiator...

I am using a single 16" SPAL fan with no shroud on my 500+hp 406 small block. No problems!

Excellent, Thanks for the replies. That flex-a-light is a good option but I am trying not to spend quite that much on the project, and I want to fab a custom shroud out of either aluminum that can be polished or stainless. Any thoughts?

Appears that a shrouded 16 with aluminum rad cools with no issues.

Using a 16 in spal 2200 cfm with no shroud does a good job. For $200 its a good value
stroker in the high 5xx hp area easy
I think with a shroud it would do an even better job at idle the area unshrouded gets no cooling effect unless youre moving.

Just dont make your shroud perfectly flat put some taper to it.

eventually Im going to move up to a 3300 cfm one just for peace of mind. Cant have enough cooling capacity imo. We will see.

Anyone ever try an install like this. Looks interesting, installed right in the original shroud!
