It doesn't list the weight difference of the fiberglass spring in this section, but in an earlier section it says -33 lbs. under the steel multi-leaf spring. The fiberglass spring only came with the automatic, but I'm not sure if the +38.2 lbs. above includes the net affect of adding the automatics weight and reducing the fiberglass springs weight. I would guess not, so that the net weight of an automatic would be +5.2 lbs. over the Manual tranny.

I measured the entire AC/Heater unit on my 1981, and it came out to 68 lbs. with about 1 gallon of water in the heater core/lines. I have the small AC compressor which is lighter than the long compressor of the earlier year vettes.

The compresor itself was only 20 lbs. The rest of the system made up the other 48 lbs. Before I weighed the compressor I thought for sure it would be at least 40 lbs. To loose the 68 lbs. I removed everything related to the AC/Heater except the switch on the console. Now I need to fabricate something that looks good to cover the hole in the firewall. I'm still looking for some thick aluminum plate to put their, but I haven't found anyone local that carries it. I'll probably have to go to a fabrication shop and have one made. What did you use as a cover?

The really pretty lump on the firewall is the one part of the system that is still in place, except for the controls in the console (I've started at the front of the car & am working backwards!). I was planning on using some 16swg stainless steel sheet, probably satin finish (polished would look a bit OTT). If it doesn't look too good in satin then I'll get it powder coated flat black. Stainless is not much fun to work with though.
