Obviously the hose is toast so I'd replace it along with the accumulator which requires replacement whenever the system is opened, and orifice tube. This is assuming there is nothing else wrong with the system. I don't know what cheap is to you but it sounds like you'll have to take to a shop so you're probably looking at $250 for the above parts plus refrigerant, R12 is more expensive but does a better cooling job, and labor. Don't scrimp on the repair because if it's done correctly, you should have years of trouble free service. Good luck.

You're welcome. $250 is just parts which may be a little high depending on the shop. You can buy the parts yourself from one of the Vette parts vendors and they would run in the $160 area. I checked the hose and it was around $85 and the accumulator and tube another $75. Of course a shop will mark up the parts. R12 freon can be purchased on Ebay for $25/can or so.
