Well, it's time for me to put in a roll cage. Actually it was time back in 1998 when I started running 11's! Anyway, the car has run 10.40's and I consistently get told that I can't line up again. I really should have the proper safety equipment in place anyway... :yesnod:
So, who here has done this and can share pics and opinions about the install and overall level of satisfaction with the cage?
I am considering chromemoly tubing with swing-out bars on the side. Ayone have any thoughts on this?
I have a 9.90 NHRA aproved 8 point. SCCA road racing and SCTA 200+mph approved car. I have better pic's, but anyway I'm having the bars slightly changed. You can't do chromemoly in a car. Chr. has to me anealed. or the joints will break. NHRA is rules require .125 wall 3/4 tubing in mild steel. I went much better with .130 wall seamless steel 1 3/4.
I have a custom job. Kit's might be cheaper. I feel very safe at very high speeds!
I just don't have any pic's on the forum to show you. This shows where I had the holes cut through the body. The rear bars are short instead of all the way out back. They are just behind the 25 gallon tank. The thought was just in case of a rear impact it wouldn't total the frame. kind of a crush area. I gussetted the frame and ground and rewelded everything on the frame front to the rear. Tom's Diff sells the kit to reenforce the whole rear swing arm section.
Are those sparco seats the ULTRA? I'm looking to buy a couple instead of geting new leather, but I'm in between the ULTRA and the REV, I need an inside on the confort for that one you have.

http://www.sparcousa.com/seats_competition.asp I bought my Ultra from wine country racing. It's a very confortable seat. But it's not made for big people. My buddy who is 5'11" and 205 said it fits him fine. I'm 5'10" and 165 lbs. Even mounted as flat as you can make the Sparco seat. Your seated @ 1 .5 inches taller than my stock 79 seats. They are good enough for me to drive 1300 some miles in 16.5 hours
I think that the Evo2 or pro2000 might be the way to go if you have ladies onboard. My gf is small at 105 lbs so she fits right in and the added height helps out.
Jegs sells a few kits for c3 vettes, as does Chris Alston Chassis Works (www.cachassisworks.com). Chris Alstons has a bunch of options including swingout/removable side bars, removable back brace (I think this holds the seat to the back of the cage). I think I'm going with one of their kits when I put mine in.
It actually looks a little different now. It sits lower and the front end has been replaced, so it has '80-82 side grills now. Also, under the hood is a bit different as well. It now has a serpentine system for the accessories and a Griffin radiator.
Thanks for the responses- I will check out Alston's.
What is that cowl hood? Where can I get it? How much? I'm looking around for a replacement hood that is tall so I can get the blower and carb to fit under the hood, and have the air cleaner out (in a scoop style).
Nice cage though, I'd find it to be tight around the legs with those bars there though.
Can't you get away with a bar and not a cage? Or do you absolutely have to have a full cage?
