Trust me, I'm not an expert on this but it seems I have seen numbers up to 25%. I think maybe a little less for a manual trans.

There was a thread on here a week ago on the same question. Ppl were saying about 500-600 as long as u don't dog it. Of course an auto will handle more than a manual

How much one attempts to put thru a stock 10-bolt and how much abuse it will take are different issues, entirely.

FWIW, don't have any hard HP/TQ numbers, but the revised 427 BB going back in my shark is modeling up to be ~590 HP / ~530 TQ at the crank, and I wouldn't think of putting a stock 10-bolt behind it, as I learned long ago that you don't necessarily have to be drag racing and/or on slicks to break a 10-bolt. ...and, I've broken a couple of them behind autos too.

700 hp to a stock diff? How about the aluminum (ie; '81 w/ an automatic and 3:08 gears)? I've heard that the aluminum can handle up to about 400hp and then it's a gamble after that. Some input from experienced guys, please. Thanks in advance... And: is that 400hp at the crank or at the back wheels? Thanks again.

Just so you're aware, you can mate an iron 10-bolt IRS hoghead up to the late C3 batwing.

Yes, I am aware of that. I was asking the question, as I have the stock rear and 3:08s and have made afew upgrades to my engine and intend to go into the engine sometime after the summer. Just was wondering how much abuse a rear like mine can take and if the HP guys are talking about, approx. 400, is crank shaft or rear wheels. I'm thinking crank, but not f/ sure. Thanks again in advance.

Motorhead is pushing 600 HP in front of a TKO 600 and running a stock aluminum rear end. Before that he ran a 500 HP 406 for over 25,000 miles. Same rear end. Seems like some last well and some come apart easily. Luck of the draw I guess. Run it till it breaks and replace it with something stronger or send it to Tracdogg for a buildup.

9.90's on motor, with a best of 9.78@137mph. On spray 250 shot 8.66 @156 best.
It's currently set up for 10.50 heads up. Ran this weekend and ran 10.507 and 10.488 @ 134mph I take out 9deg. of timing and run a 6inch. air filter to slow it down for the 10.50 index. Lost first round on a red light. Pushed it thru the lights on the brake.

That ~22% loss in the drivetrain really adds up. TH400?

Yes, TH400, exactly 22% drivetrain loss. Real world dyno measurements, your results may vary
