Anyone switch from an Eddy carb 1406 to a holley 670 avenger and have better luck? i for the life of me cannot get this carb to work worth a crap. The thing will not go up onto fast idle when i first start it, it will puddle gas onto the intake floor and flood after i shut it off. I lowered the floats, as there was gas dripping out of the boosters. I have spent time on the phone with eddy tech support, the guy there is helpful. Just had enough of this.
You've got a stuck needle valve. Probably some crud in there. If anything, holleys seem more suceptible to this. Take out the needle valve and seat, clean them.
Other thing to check is your fuel pressure. Did you replace the pump recently?
i just switched to a summit... had lots of issues with the install.. needle valve was stuck still not sure the choke is running right and the fuel line ran into my heater hose......

Edelbrock carbs have a single-piece main body...so if there's fuel pooling it's a way-too-high fuel level in the bowl due to the needle/seat or fuel pressure.
It's very possible that your fuel pressure is overpowering the float which prevents it from closing the needle and seat. Lower your fuel pressure to 5 psi and try it!
Its going on the nearest swap meet table and i am getting a Holley on Monday. F****king junk.
It's not junk at all. Swapping good carbs to "fix" a problem just costs money - and if the issue is fuel pressure you'll be right back here with the same issue on the Holley.
Being a mechanic means finding and fixing problems - not just replacing parts. It sucks sometimes...but that's also part of the fun
I've run a Performer on my '72 Chevy Pickup for like 5 trouble-free years, an installed many others. They have their own quirks, but they work just fine.

I just installed a new Eddy and I am in the process of tuning it in. Patience and persistence.
If you are really hell bent on a Holley and want to donate that Eddy, let me know.
Got the new carb on, and it started first crack out of the box. Turned the idle screws a half turn and bobs your uncle. I have 5.5 lbs fuel pressure, the motor idles nice starts awesome. Its been raining so i havent driven it yet. Carb must be the same height, as the hood closes with no issues either.
