As part of my spring maintenance program I removed & cleaned my radiator, changed all my hoses, resealed the radiator (foam seals) and installed a new 180* thermostat. I also replaced the original fuel pump and the metal line that runs from the pump to the carb. While I had the car apart I did refinished the frame area and cross-member plus all the engine brackets.
I buttoned her up last Sunday was was finally able to take it on a 100 mile trip today. The car performed flawlessly !! The temp gauge never touched the 200* mark all day, even with the air conditioning on and it cruised at 70-75mph with no problem. Actually a nice driving car (it only has 27k miles but it is 40 year old technology )
The car actually runs cooler. I firmly believe that installing new radiator seals made the difference. The old seals did not seal very well (gap between the seal and radiator) and parts were missing.
