I am installing the ring gear bolts and wish to use a threadlocker. I have Permatex red p/n 26200.

Would this be an equal equivalent to Loctite 271 ?

Go on line to McMaster Carr, search for thread locking compounds. They have a very good comparision chart. May not be a cross reference, but useful none the less.

Thanks for the tip Imariver, great site.

I have done a lot of research today and maybe over thinking this too much.

Would the Permatex Permanent Strength Threadlocker Red 26200 be satisfactory for my ring gear bolts?

I would assume that any "servicable" thread-locker, that is also oil resistant would do the job, BUT........... most thread locking compounds require that all the threads, (both external and internal) be free of any oil. "loc-tite" brand makes a spray primer, for bolts that may have an oily residue on them. "loc-tite" 242 is a blue, serviceable compound, 262 is a red compound, but you need to apply heat to remove the fastener.

The "RED" thread locker can only be removed with HEAT. You need to get the blue stuff. I've had some experience with the red and it's nasty stuff. Good if you're never going to take it apart, again.
