I've been on the net too much, and I'm lazy...I'm hoping you guys can send me to a good reliable 100amp alternator for sale. What experiences have you guys had with suppliers? Also, anybody interested in purchasing a nice reconditioned 140amp alternator, part number 10480008. Tested great.
In Ontario, methinks a parts house exchange is your best bet....
the 17SI series alts are putting out a rated 108 amps, coming from Caddy Sevilles in '79 with rear window defogger/deicer...they are almost a direct plug in, I not sure about the larger diameter, but the mounts are the same, I THINK it will clear your valve covers .....but when doing mine I changed to a C4 serp drive at the same time, so unsure of the reaction and hood clearances but methinks it should work....
after that, get a CS144 from a junkyard, and change regulators and plugs....if you go that route, it's another ball game....no biggie though...little league...
I went with a CS-144 140 amp brand new alternator from the guys below-$179 brand new-fits perfectly and if you call them they will clock it correctly for a vette with the correct pulley. You just need an adapter plug which they sell as well. Plug and play.
Also, just did my 2001 Grand Prix CS-130D with these guys as well-went with a 140 amp brand new one instead of the stock 105 amp one.
too big? really? I have a CS144 off a 93 impala SS in my 72 and it's great. Oh wait... you've got that big block in there, that must be what is causing those clearance issues! Sorry bud, can't help ya there.
Summit racing 140 amp. Best bang for the buck at @$150
Is that alternator a 12SI case or is it a CS-144 alternator? The high amperage 12SI is not nearly as good as the CS-144 alternators for many reasons. Just curious.

I also got a CS144 from them... Its been on for over a year and 5k miles and it still charges like an animal....
I have no issues with my factory wiring at all... BUT I did add additional 8 ga charge wires from the alternator back to the starter, one to the horn relay, and one back to the battery, all with 12 ga fusible links.
I can be sitting at idle with the AC on full blast, Lincoln MK8 fan running, stereo system with amp running, headslights/high beams on and my foot on the brake and still hold 13.5-13.8 volts.. The stock headlights are noticeably brighter all the time as well, especially at idle..
Its a good mod, just add an additional charge wire back to the battery and everything else will be fine...
If you want to take the time and maybe a run down towards Toronto the guy I deal with has been in the business since the time of hand winding alternators. He is located off the 401 in Pickering
I fix this guys computers do he does work for me for a "special" price.
He actually dropped a brand new high-powered starter off at my house today. He told me what it was, but it went right over my head. Something about gears and multiplying the speed to spin the motor faster???

Yup, tall valve covers a a serp belt system puts it high.
