SHE'S ALIVE!!!! - an update
Right now the valves are clacking and the timing is not quite there, but she idles smooth!!!! :) I drove her around the block slowly as a test and she passed.
Tonight I plan to go through Lars' valvetrain adjustment white paper and set the timing.
I do have a problem, though (of course) :) The headlights came up REAL slow and the brakes were mushy as hell. This leads me to believe vacuum problem, but she was idling AWESOME. I am, of course, especially concerned about the brakes. But the brake light wasn't on and fluid level was perfect.
Anyway, just thought I would report. My first head swap was a success - and still no leaks at all. :) I am beside myself. Hopefully I can get the last kinks worked out and get it dynoed tomorrow.
Thanks to all here who provided me the support, guidance, and inspiration.

I know the feeling of accomplishing something you were kinda worried about doing. Great glad it worked out for you...now that success will allow you to tackle your next big project with confidence.
Might want to check those brakes further. Low vacuum would normally result in a hard pedal - lack of assist - not mushy brakes. May need to be bled.
^ my wife whenever I say that. :)
Awesom site! I'm getting the crash course on adding freon this weekend...with the vacum pump and guages and everything. I'll try and document everything and send it in.
