Vacuum for brakes
I was wondering if anyone has this problem with there car. When I come to a stop sign and use my brakes, the idle goes way down to about 500rpm. I have standard brakes, no power assist. I was told that we could put an extra vacuum can that would boost it. Any suggestions, Please

It seems to me that an extra can would only help if you had power brakes. I maybe wrong though.
How many miles does the engine have on it since last rebuild and does it do it under hard braking or soft braking, does the RPM's come back after the car has stopped.?

If you have no power brakes then there should be no affect when applying the brakes. :confused: You have a 4-speed right? If so, something amiss.

It seems to happen on both hard or soft braking. I have to hit the gas a couple of times then its ok. The motor is a fresh rebuild 454 with a crane 296 cam. I know with that cam there is not much vacuum, or thats what I was told. Could I have a vacuum leak somewhere?

Call Norval and ask hiim about the HydraBoost system on his Blown Big Block car. It uses th Hydraulic Pressure from the power steering pump to assist the brakes instead of Vacuum, It stops a 2 ton truck so why not a Vette, says Norval.
