McGard lug nuts
Any one use these or do I go with specific aluminum wheel lug nuts ?
The stock aluminum wheel lug nuts have a built-in washer which is nice , but they have a small extension into the hole of the rim . I'd like to have more support of the stud in the hole of the rim .
I've got a 454 with a manual trans and plan on hopping it up with a cam and headers .

The McGard ones are slightly smaller diameter than the stockers ; causing more clearance in the rim hole . The washer fits the rim register perfectly and the wheel nut extends all the way in to fit flush with the back side of the rim . If the register for the washer was worn and sunk in deeper , the wheel nut would bottom out on the rotor ( not good ) .
So .... I'm going to buy some stock wheel nuts and be done with this experiment .
Most modern wheels have 60° seats with a vast assortment of nuts available.
You could get your rims machined to accept hardened tapered inserts to use the 60° nuts. It would require longer studs and if going that far you may as well change to 1/2".
Lots of options.
Here is another source for the stock Corvette specific lug nuts.
Possibly they are a better quality than the common replacements.
