Shifting Problem
I had finished a restoration on 72 corvette in 2011 and had installed a new clutch and drove approximately 750 miles on the car in 2011.
Manual transmission had a small leak by the seal area so I had the transmission rebuilt in spring of 2012. I put the transmission back in and drove around for approximately 350-400 miles and everything was fine. The next time I took the vehicle out, when I wanted to shift to reverse it would grind real bad and wouldn't let me shift into reverse. I could shut the car off put it in reverse, start back up and shift out of reverse just fine but couldn't go back to reverse due to grinding.
I adjusted the clutch to the point were I can't adjust it anymore due to the fork starting to disengage the clutch from the flywheel. I drove it around like this and it seems when the car is cool, it will go into reverse, but still not perfectly. After the car warms up, it did the same thing with grinding when going into reverse.
I don't know if shifter linkage would cause this problem, but I had all the linkage aligned to the neutral point on the transmission by feel for the first 350-400 miles that I put on the rebuilt transmission when everything was going fine.( I didn't use the gage tool that recommended to put in when in the neutral position). Now with this grinding problem it does seem like there is a slight resistance when shifting into Reverse and 1st gear when the vehicle is off.
Any thoughts or advice on this would be greatly appreciated.
