Default Headers

1970 Corvette 454, A/C, 4-Spd
Just installed my midrise lift and now I am ready to do some work on my car. Looking at installing some headers and MagnaFlow exhaust. Have been researching headers and what I am looking for are good quality and easy installation. It seems like the shorties are the preferred choice for ease of installation. Looking for some reviews from some experienced installers. Thanks.

i have small blocks in both a 74 and 72. I installed headman headers on both and they were very easy to put on. No issues and no bending to fit. Can be done in 1 - 2 hours once the old manifolds are off. Mine are the full length as well. The worse part of the job is the plug wires. I put heat covers on the ends as I kept the wires running in the original position from the underside. Good luck with your install.

Hey rod7515,
How high off the ground did you have to get the car so you could install the headers?

Wig,
I can't add anything to the header install because I run a small block. I run Hooker Super Comps and they fit great on angle plugged AFR 210's if that helps.
What I can add is that you will love the Magnaflow mufflers. They have great street manners and are fairly quiet when cruising. But when you decide to move from point A to point B faster than usual, look out! They roar!! I love them.
Good luck with the install.

on the 72 I put both headers in from up top. It was super easy. The 74 I put the drivers side in from up top and the passenger side from the bottom. I had the car up on jack stands to do it. Just make sure you disconnect the battery as you will be working near the starter wires. Also I would make sure you have a heat shield on the starter to deflect some of that header heat. Best of luck

I have Mcjacks shortys on my 74bb. Fits is great but I kind of wish I had installed long tube.

I was also thinking about McJacks shorties for easy fit, so why should you have chose long tubes?

I guess I shouldn't say that I don't like them. I just want the extra hp that the long tubes would have provided. The main reason I went with the shorty was the ground clearance. I guess I can't have both. The mcjacks really do fit well and they went on easy. They also have a nice thick flange.
