How much power are you looking for & how much money can you afford to spend?

Two guys come to mind right away Billa & 63Mako (sorry if I dind't mention others). Those two guys are tight on engines and can give you tons of info.

I have been facing this question also. It really comes down to how much are you willing to spend? I'm on an annual project budget and I have to keep my project realistic.

What do you intend to do with your car? Cruiser? DD? Race?

See the thread, cheap, fast, durable pick 2 in this section.

Funny, yesterday I found a few 454's in my area for reasonable $ and I am contemplating putting one in my 78.

Check Jeggs too. I just got their most recent mag and right now they are making putting a new crate in your car very affordable. Plus 3yr/50K mile warranty.

Just my 2 cents. There are guys on here that will be a wealth of knowledge and be able to give you some great direction.

Good luck.

Speed costs money, kid. How fast do ya wanna go?

Bill and Mako are both gonna want a realistic power goal, and a budget. The specifics will be whatever you decide them to be, but the main thing to keep in mind for a successful engine project is no different than any other project: Make a detailed, realistic plan, and stick to it.

The only real problem I can really think of with crate engines, is that you basically have to choose from what's available, where, with a custom built engine, you can have it exactly the way you want. BTW, welcome to the forum, if you want to hotrod your 'vette, you came to the right place.

Keep the shiny side up!

I know how to build your motor for around 300hp to the rear wheels.
About 110mph in the 1/4 mile and at least 18 miles to the gallon.
Or do you need more?
