Is there anyone in the North Dallas area who has an engine hoist that I can borrow or rent?
I need to pull my engine so I can fix this properly:
I have the engine completely ready to come out, but United rentals does not have engine hoists any longer. I found another place fairly close by that rents them, but they want $50 to use it for a few hours.
At that price it is almost worth it to just buy one, but then I would have to store it. So before I go that route I thought I'd ask here and see if anyone has one I could use.
Try craigs list in your area. Offer to rent it from them.
Just for the heck of it I looked to see what they were selling for on CL and there are some that are like new for anywhere from $80 to $250. Seems like a lot of them get used once or twice then sold off.

That's a good idea. Thanks

I found a couple of folding hoists in my area that I can hopefully get for about $100.
I'd have to get one that folds for storage since I wouldn't have room otherwise, but since I would have spend $100 to rent one ($50 to remove it, another $50 when I put it back) I might as well buy it.
Try harbor freight. I just purchased and used one from HF and then sold it when I was done. I see it more like a rental.. I sold it for 20 less than I bought it for and no rush to return a rented tool. Good luck
You could borrow mine, but not exactly in TX. If you do decide to buy one though, keep in mind the boom length, as some of the cheapo's, aren't very long, and may be of little use to you. Wouldn't exactly say mine folds up, but the legs slide out, and store in the back. Whole thing takes less than a 24x24" footprint stored in the basement.
I thought I found one on Craigslist, but after texting with the seller for 20 minutes I was finally informed that his hoist had a bent boom.
I decided to pass on that one.
Luckily I happened to run into a friend after work who had one I can borrow.
Buy one, use it, and sell it on Craigs list without a bent boom. Recover as much as you can.
That's the second frame tear I've seen on here in the last year. Do you have any idea how it happened?

Harbor Freight is selling them for 100 bucks. They fold up for storage. My brother just bought one, it seems pretty nice for 100 bucks. Think about keeping it afterward, it's nice to have a hoist for picking up heavy things and putting them in the back of a pickup, or whatever. Save some strain on your back.

It's a pretty common problem with C3's due to the **** poor welding job they did on the frames back then. I don't think GM ever intended for these cars to last more than about 10 years.
Mine broke as I was making a hard right turn into a parking space moving at a snails pace.
I was planning to drive it from Dallas to Bowling Green KY and back the next day, so I feel very fortunate that it broke near home and not while I was doing 70+mph on interstate 40 in the middle of Nowhere Ark.
I have been considering installing the VB&P Performance suspension doing some other mods, so I guess this is just the "little push" I needed to make me go ahead and get it done.
If it falls through just give me a yell, I am in N dallas and my hoist is not in use at the
moment.
Thanks for the offer, but I picked it up this morning. Hoping to get all the honey-do's done at some point this evening and get the engine pulled tonight.
