Default 1980 fan

I noticed while trying to get my A/C blow cooler, that there is a electric fan in front of my clutch fan on the motor. It spins freely, but don't seem to kick on can anyone tell me if tgis is factory or an add on for the upgraded ac system and also the location of the relay

Yes for L-82 cars. Follow the wiring back along the fender skirt to the engine. You should find a temperature switch in the right head between #6 and #8 cylinders. The temp switch opens at about 238 degrees and turns on the fan.

If memory serves, there is no relay. The assembly instruction manual (AIM) shows the installation of the fan and wiring harness for the L-82 cars.

All 81s and 82s have the auxiliary electric fan.

I have an 80 L82 but now run a DeWitts aluminum rad with spal fans and contoller.

The orginal circuit works as mentioned above. There's a 30 amp fuse in the fuse block that should be marked fan (near lower left of fuse block). The temp switch in head turns it on or off. Power should always go to the fan on the pink lead. The fan is turned on by the temp switch closing to ground completing the circuit.

you can install a lower temp sender for that fan, its a popular upgrade in C4, it wont cool your engine any better but the air flow across your a/c condenser will make your a/c work better
