I know this has been asked before but what is the favorite among coating intake manifolds? I need to clear mine with something before it goes on as its been beadblasted and looks new at the moment and would really like to keep it that way. Any suggestions???
DUH!!! It's a Performer
I painted my Performer with heat proof clear coat. It turned yellowish after not too long. I had to use paint stripper to get some of the baked stuff off, then cleaned it with a wire brush. 12 months on and it still looks better than new.
Ditto that! I clear coated (VHT High Heat) my aluminum L82 manifold almost 3 years ago. Last year it started to get a yellow haze on it and that's after only about 6k miles. Others have reported the same.
If you have an aluminum manifold, leave it raw it will last. Otherwise paint it the color of your choice but use good paint.
If you are going to clear coat it then do not skimp on the coating. There was a big discussion about this on chevelles.com and the POR 15 was by far the favorite. I used it and because of a gas leak it did discolor a little bit. It's durable but pricey, AFAIK the only real choice for coating intakes. Just make sure you don't have any leaks and if you do, fix them quickly and it should be fine. I wouldn't try any cheaper solutions like VHT or any aerosol spray ons though. The POR 15 is brush on but comes out smooth.
