Default 1982 cross fire

hi guys i am looking for some information and trying to pick yall s brains. i am new to corvette ownership. i recently purchased a very clean low milage 1982 corvette. i bought it from a reputable dealer , paid good money for the car and lucily so. i had a 30 day 1000 mile 50 50 warentee and guess what transmission went sour. i should see my car back next week with new clutch pack and rebuilt valve body. that being said i have read a couple things about the transmissions not being notoriously stout that year and that the crossfire injection tends to be problematic.obviously being an original car if i modify the car i would need to hang on to original parts. i would like to go with a carb. something like an edlbrock maybe even a cam kit. nothing too radical what would i need know to make sure my transmission cable is properly adjusted when i do a swap? also is there a better trans i could use as a direct bolt in . thanks

CFI cars are like any other ..... set up and serviced properly, they'll do a good job. Because CFI is a vacuum based system, your vacuum system must be in good working order, with good lines and no leaks. I drove my 200k CFI 5 or 6 years daily and other then plugs, oil and filters, it just kept on going .....
the 700R4 is a work horse ... and with a stock 200 HP motor will give great service, not to mention fun to drive. We did a stage 2 rebuild when we did the new motor (and yeah we kept the CFI) and have no complaints what so ever.
Doing a carb transformation IMO is a waste of money unless you're building really big HP. Do it on a stock 82 motor won't gain you a whole lot.
just my 2 cents ..... good luck with your new purchase .....

thats good to know. i have noticed that the idle seems to be somewhat erratic on start up it will idle high but then calms down after she heats up.

before you throw away you time and money .try and work with what you have .if you only want 400 hp or less you have all you need with the cross-fire .if you want a race car go get your old school carb.http://www.crossfireinjection.net/gallery.htm they can get you most parts that you will need. here they can help you fix what you think is going to break http://crossfireinj.5.forumer.com/ theses cars are great drivers .also dont forget some of us get 21 mpg .

thanks for the links. on the cfi. again i am completely new to the corvette game although i have owned lots of different muscle cars and am an industrial mechanic by trade. the car is an absoloute blast to drive, gets really good milage as well. having some trouble up loading pictures of it. the car is really clean and i do have to work a few bugs out of it and intend to keep it for a long time.

you will enjoy the car .my crossfire has been verry dependable.its differant and thats one of the reasons i like it .i would never put a carb on it .i would go with the new f.a.s.t injection.i think that is one of the best injections out there.drive your car for the season and then decide what upgrades or changes you want .

yea thanks i intend too. its a 76k original car it has air, power windows, locks cruise even still has the original cassette player. rally wheels. drives like a new car. someone put led lights under the hood for show purposes which i promptly removed. as i stated earlier i did have an issue with the transmission. i was driving it home from work and it started shifting late. i got the car home thinking that the transmission probably overheated in traffic, fluid level was fine the car has zero leaks. i went to back it out of my driveway and it felt like someone threw out an anchor so i stopped and called the dealer i bought it from ,not that i couldnt repair it myself but i had a warentee(on a 30 year old car) 50 50 . i do have an electrical issue with the interior lights, the fuse was popped. i replaced it the lights stayed on and as soon as i pushed nin the lighter the fuse popped. it has a presentable paint job but i see some things i want one of my friends to fix for me but other than that its a beautiful car.
