1970 Rear Clicking

Hi guys. My 1970 has a persistent clicking noise in the rear end while driving. It is very steady and increases in speed with the speed of the car. I don't know if it does it in reverse. Sounds like there's a rock in the tires kind of, you know? I had a similar problem with a 77 I used to have and it was a bad u-joint...but I had 70 on a hoist today and all the u-joints are rock solid, no play whatsoever, and greased where applicable. Thoughts?

If you have rallys , remove the beauty rings and drive. Its not uncommon for them to click,if they do grease the 4 retainer clips.
Otherwise you might look at the parking brake.

Another thing to check is to make sure the French locks on the back of the wheels aren't making contact with anything as the wheels spins. I have seen this.

Absolutely have rally wheels and absolutely the rings were clicking! Popped them off and went for a drive tonight and no noise (instant happiness), so I used the only lube I had on hand...venerable WD-40...back on, no clicking! I'll get some better grease tomorrow. This made my day, I was perplexed. Thank you.
