I need to buy a timing gear and chain for the BB. I was thinking about a double roller, but thought to maybe run a Acu-drive system. Anyone running one? Is it good to 7,000rpms? Here's a pic.

I agree. I bought the "noisey "one and it is really getting on my nerves. first chance I get its coming out. Never taken mine to 7000 so don't know about that . :chevy

I ran a peter Jackson gear drive , the noisy one and it does get on your nerves but I am old and things like noise bother me. Funny I'm also deaf but I can hear annoying rattles. :)

A geardrive will transmit harmonics from the crank to the valvetrain. This will cause flucuations in the timing at certain RPM's. It won't affect the springs or the valve or cause the valves to float. Engines that use a non-dampened gear drive will on occasion show more wear in the pushrod tips. None of these situations are a enough to cause problems on a street motor. Unless you need a gear drive (roller cam with very stiff spings) you are better off with a double roller chain or a belt drive. Unless you really like the noise.

My girlfriend and I went to our local car show and a Chevelle went by with gear drive and she chimed up " I think he's low on oil!!"

I'm into Sprint car racing. Years ago gear drives were a no no. Now every one has them in 360 ci. class sprinters. They run a light weight 3 gear unit as opposed to your pictured 4 gear. they have no problems running a Mag ignition and the fuel pump & power steering off the back end of billet roller cams.
I have the Crane billet roller setup with my solid roller cam. I just want to here the music of clicking valves. On cruise nights you can hear the gear drives coming down the street.
