Default Question on 82 Fuel Cell Quantity

The owners manual for my 82 lists the fuel cell at 23.7 gallons. However, when the fuel gage goes to almost E it only takes about 15 gallons to fill it up. Does anyone know if whether some 82 came with fuel cells smaller than listed in the owners manual?

There is a rubber bladder in your tank. A common problem is that the bladder seperates from the wall of the tank and limits the amount of gas the tank can hold and will also interfer with the sending unit which will affect your fuel guage. In my case I replaced the tank as this is not repairable. I read where a member removed the bladder and used the tank without it. It's worth checking out.
Good luck.

Seems like I have read where other Vette owners have experienced "collapsed" bladders in their tanks. This obviously causes reduced capacity. I think that the tank can be used without the bladder.

Maybe someone with solid answers will chime in to help.

EDIT:>>> Doh!! I left my "reply" window open too long before replying. gg82 beat me to it.

I can get about 15.5 gallons in mine also, seems to be a common problem...

The same tank was used from 78 to 82. I just replaced mine with one from an 80. The liner was not rubber but a fitted solid liner. I'm not sure what it's made out of but it isn't plyable like rubber. The reason I had to replace mine was because the liner was melted and floating in the tank. Don't ask me how this happened cause I have no idea. I guess Bubba parked it too close to a fire of some kind.
