How do fiberglass monoleafs compare to steel? The dampener pads on mine are shot and the spring ends are worn funny from a disintegrated rubber end. Do fiberglass springs last as long as steel? Which is better? Sorry about all the rear end questions but I've never done anything behind the tranny and this is all so completely different than a standard live axle.
Re: While were talking about rear ends............. (BubbaJJ)
Fiberglass springs can be cycled many many more times than steel, and as such they can be considered more durable - a secondary benefit is the significant weight savings. Keep in mind the vette has not come with a steel spring since 80? or was it 81?, there is probably a reason for that.
Also be aware that glass springs are susceptible to heat and can be made to fail if placed too close to a heat source (such as exhaust)
Re: While were talking about rear ends............. (fauxrs)
It is true that fiberglass springs can be harmed by excessive heat from the exhaust pipes. However that problem is easily averted by wrapping the exhuast around the spring with heat insulating header wrap. thats what i did, and it really works to keep the temps down.
Fiberglass will give you better ride and handling(as long as you chose the right weight spring for your setup), but it will definately cost you more than a steel replacement.
i love mine!!, it really impoved the ride of my car
