Default I've Always Wondered- Why Do Some Folks Call Their Vette "She" Or "Her"?

First of all, this is not intended to insult those who attach a feminine personality to their Vette. All I'm saying is that I've never understood why somebody would do that. I see it here in the C3 Tech/Performance Forum on a somewhat regular basis. Now, maybe I could understand it in a Mazda Miata forum or something along those lines where the car in question is of a more delicate nature. Maybe it's the roughly 500 HP motor and the fact that the car can be vicious if you don't respect it, but I just can't see my C3 in that way. I see our C3s as aggressive, true high performance cars even in their less potent variations and that just doesn't jibe with a female persona in my opinion. I'm interested in the thinking involved here and how it might have come about.

Take a good long look at a C3 'vette. Now take a good long look at a shapely swimsuit model. There ya go.

Gay is just wrong, but that's got nothing to do with car names, IMO. I've never thought of my cars as female, and never came up with a suitable male name for it either.

The 78 is "the 78" and Big Blue is "Big Blue" or "the Z06" and Bigger Blue is "Bigger Blue" or "the Avalanche" and they're all "it"s.

Real simple dude, they like the attention, they like the bling, they like to give you a hard time, ecstasy and agony at the same time so THEY MUST BE FEMALE

Besides, you can’t live with either of them and you can’t leave either at the curb when you are done

In language its common to refer to all inanimate objects as female. Its done in spanish, french, etc. I just enjoy telling my wife that we refer to inanimate objects as female. She enjoys that...

However, I really think its because of all the reasons you guys have mentioned... ie. my vette is sexy, I'm not gay, my car is tempermental, its sometimes a very love hate relationship, and at times she's a real bitch!

It is not just a Vette thing. My dad's 38 Ford Coupe was referred to as a she during my child hood. Lot's of guys refer to their cars as females, has been that way for all of my 45 years and before.

In French a car is a feminine word, so it's natural for me.

Sorry I can`t remember WHO posted this, but I copied it from this very forum because it says it SO WELL! So my apologies to the author, but this is pure genius, and bears repeating!

She is sooooo sexy.....curves to die for, she usually runs around topless. Hot and ready...begging to get crazy and go for a long ride. Sleek, flowing, graceful, breath taking.....she turns heads at every corner..... sometimes a little quirky, kinda of expensive to maintain. She'll haunt you in your dreams....make you do things that you didn't think you would......stay up nights... skip meals...spend money you don't have...she'll make you cry, cuss, throw things and bleed. I really don't like when she isn't at her best. You'll LOVE her...and then you'll HATE her....but, because she's yours, you always make up....and you know how much fun making up can be. You buy her things to make her even more beautiful than she naturally is...you pamper her, and coddle her, caress her, massage her....she is after all, very special! When someone says something about her or is admiring her...it's OK. But, don't stare or drool, DO NOT TOUCH her..... and if you insult her, it is ON!
I love listening to her......she purrs in my ears....and on those lonely hot nights, we just enjoy being together, the wind in our face and the world fading in the dark behind us.....
I look at others and sometimes lust in my mind..... how can so many be so perfect....different colors...various shapes...some are old and worn...but, even then they still demand more than a casual glance. I can't really explain it.....I don't know how to express it....SHE has captured my heart......and I love our C3

I usually refer to the vette as 'her', it is a very sexy car, beautiful swooping lines, very much like a woman (not a fat one)

....although it's a woman that will bite your head off if you're not careful! And it's this combo of beauty and aggression that i like in the car.

A (girl) friend of mine said if it was a girl it'd be Pamela Anderson, a good looking girl with tattoos.

so yeah i think it's a very feminine body style mixed with aggression ( sidepipes, noise etc), although not a girls car like a Porsche ha ha.
