I noticed my gas gauge is stuck on1/4 a tank even when it's full. When I go lower than a forth of a tank it goes down. I saw a post with how to check the gauge with a ohms tester. Is there a way to check without the ohms tester. Is there any way to salvage the gauge or do I have to buy a new one?
Mine would show 3/8 when full. It turned out to be the ceramic resistor on the back of the gauge. Resistor was ok but the soldered connection on the back of the resistor that makes contact with the threaded nut had a small gap in it. I installed a larger washer to span the gap. Willcox has a good help page to track this problem down. mike...

The Willcox guide is excellent. Helped me track the problem to the sending unit. The contacts were not contacting well from years of gas and varnish. A few blasts of brake cleaner fixed it.
