Default Lowering

Hi I have a 79 Vette which has standard suspension, I would like to lower the car just a bit , but I would like to retain a comfortable ride, any suggestions would be appreciated.

Cheers
Mark

You could do this by getting longer (10 inch I think) bolts for your rear spring. Not sure how to do it on the front though. Don't get to low or your drag your exhaust on everything.

You can install 550# front coil springs which should drop front about an inch. They are stiffer springs, but I personally like the feel; others think it is too harsh. I guess it depends on how good the roads are in your area. You can cut front springs as well (I'd cut a 1/4 turn at a time until you get the desired height.) Cutting springs will change the spring rate and make ride stiffer.

Another option would be to go with mono spring setup in front, but now you are talking $$$.

Cutting 2 loops should lower it 2 inches.
Make sure you get the top of the coil springs seated right or you will have to do it again.

The rear, you simply add a longer #8 bolt and that will lower the rear.
Usually 10 inches is as long as you can go.

I woudln't cut 2 full "loops" at one go. Better to take small bites, even if that means additional work.

And, if 8" bolts won't get the rear down where you want it, you're either slamming it severely or have a highly arched spring.

I wouldn't cut two loops at once either because I've read on several posts where people get different results cutting the same amount off.

On mine 1 loop was one inch.
The general rule was cut an inch loose an inch. But I found that not to be a solid rule.

A 10 inch bolt is as long as you can go.
Adjust it where you want it, cut the rest off. That's grind the rest off.

Yes Sir; I just installed a rear 330 #'s & fronts 460 #'s from Vette Brakes & Products Inc. I used 8" bolts on rear. The front Coils were 3/4" shorter than the original springs, right from the factory. These Springs were all made in the good ole U. S. A. Both front & Rear were easy to install. Have a great one. Iam thinking maybe 1" or 1 1/2" inches from standard would enough to reduce that wheel arch gap what do you think ?

Let's see a picture
Mine is lowered 1 inch in the front, Moog coils and stock with a new 7 leaf in the rear.
I'd like to go at least another 2 inch in the front. And then adjust the read accordingly.
Tires are 245/45/17
I've heard if it rubs it breaks.
