You can find posted results of every kind of carb spacers on these HP shoot outs like from Hot Rod Mag. But what always wins independant of manifold type is your 4 hole wood 1/2 inch spacers. It gives the carb more signal to the boosters and the thermal barrier.
I'm talking about your square bore carbs on single planes. Dual planes can use a 1/2 inch wood dual or single opening
When you see the best results from 1-2 inch spacers is a lack of plenum volume.
I hope this is approved by RedVetteRcr because he doesn't like my info
I ran this through the google translator with no luck.
Something about a carb spacer? Maybe he sent the post from his smart phone, it's a PITA to use punctuation on those things. I'm going to take a crack at translating it:
"Is a carb spacer all that? I have a 1" spacer, but I need underhood clearance for my XTreme Filter. I could go down to a 1/2" spacer, or no spacer. I'm just looking for opinions."
My guess is that he has a 1" spacer under his carb, and wants to install something called an "XTreme Filter". I did a google search, and an "XTreme Filter" is either a swimming pool filter, or a round K&N automotive air cleaner with a filter element in the lid. I think we can go with the K&N, since it's on a carb. Apparently, the air cleaner sits too high for the hood to close, and he wants to know if he should ditch the spacer to gain the hood clearance.
Did you have an air cleaner that fit under the hood before you got this new filter? Does this new air cleaner have a dropped base? Have you looked into getting a different dropped base air cleaner base that will sit lower? Maybe the hood closes, but you are worried about having some clearance between the hood and the filter element lid, so it will be able to get some airflow throught the lid? What kind of carb are you running?
From what I've read, you gotta be carefull with the filter lid in use with a holley, if its to close to the vents it can cause a lean condition at wot.
Scotty's laid it out pretty well.I have two different drop bases ,and I'm still real close to the hood.I'm running a Edlerbrock Performer and a holley 650 D.P. with a 1" spacer, and I was hoping to get some more air as I only have a 2" regular filter. The filter instructions state I need 1 1/2" clearance from the choke horn that I don't have anyway. If I ditch the spacer I could increase the size of my side filter.Oh and thanks for that tip bluedawg.

Wouldn't the old bug eye filter have had the same result,or was that filter not used with a Holley.
I ain't no expert, hell, I didn't even stay in a Holiday Inn last night, but I'd say you're better off with the bigger filter element area. Ditch the spacer, and take it for a spin, see how it feels. The carb might require some tuning.

I wouldn't know there, but prosystems had a response to a thread about leaning out at wide open throttle with the extreme filter lid, like I said it came from reading their forum & like Scott I didn't sleep in a holiday inn either and am by no means an expert, but that is a good point.
I'm stuck with the lid now.I'm also thinking off maybe picking up a 1/2" spacer and trying both with and without.I was kinda hoping someone else had traveled this road. Thanks for the replys guys.
