Default Interior paint/dye, Which one?

I need to replace and refinish my interior. I've noticed all the various interior paints sold by most of the well known venders and have noticed one major difference in their discriptions. Many now advertise "one product does all" while another says to use one primer for hard plastics and metal and a different primer for more flexable things. Obviously these are two different product lines. Does anyone in the forum have first hand knowledge with these different products, enough to recommend one or the other?

Greetings,

I've used the all in one from Mid-America on door panels and dash pieces in the past without any problems whatsoever. While yeah, the prices are a little more expensive, it seems to work better.

Just my opinion! :D

I've had good luck with SEM. You can get it at any auto paint supply store.

http://www.corvettefaq.com has some great tips on prepping and dying interior parts, including the dyes to use.

I own an insurance vandalism replacment company in Milwaukee Wisconsin, as well as The Shark Shop, and have been using SEM products for past 15 years, without any negative results. Prep, clean, prep, and when you think its clean enough to spray, prep it again. Don't forget, all interior so-called dyes, are solvent based sprays. None actually penetrate deep enough into the vinyl, or leather to DYE them. Bottom line, minimize friction on any refinished surface.

I used Mid America. Worked like a charm.

I repainted the seats on my 77 and it is a beach car (sand=abrasives) and it looks as good as it did 3 years ago. Mid America did her right. :yesnod: :yesnod:

I have used both SEM and Marhyde. Bothe are excellent - when you follow the directions!

I've used Eckler's a number of times with good results. Take a look at my website in my sig and look at the interior pics. The only things not painted are the seat covers and door panels. I also tried interior dye from Corvette America but didn't like the texture of the finish and the color was off from the original.

When I re-did the interior pieces on the CE I used the interior dye from Corvette Central and a spray gun with my compressor. Just cleaned them with laquer thinner and did not primer. Three thin coats and it loks like new

After reading this post last night I decided to e-mail Sem Products. Here's the conversation:

Me 11:22 last night: " I have a 1978 Corvette that has red interior. I need to replace some of the plastic parts that are only available in black. I also would like to refesh some of the existing part like the arm rests.

Could you tell me what products (in aerosol cans) I should use, and what
color would match my interior?

Thanks!"

Them 6:45 this morning: "Thank you for your interest in SEM Products. The product you want to use is
Color Coat. You will need your interior trim code in order to have the
right color. After you obtain the code, contact me and I will let you know
if it is available in aerosol. All preparation instructions can be found on
our web-site http://www.semproducts.com/semimages/rap1.pdf.

If you have any additional questions, please feel free to contact me at
1-800-831-1122.

Me 7:45 this morning: "Thanks for your quick response!

The trim code is 722. (that is red isn't it?)"

Them at 8:04 this morning: "Thank you for your interest in SEM Products. The SEM formula number for
your car is 4739. This color is not available in aerosol. You will have to
have this color mixed and sprayed with an automotive paint gun.

If you have any additional questions, please feel free to contact me at
