Default 79 convert to R134A

I have 79 that was in garage for several years, engine out and all accessories off including AC compressor. It's running now and I want to charge AC with R134A. I bought adapter set and when I put suction side adapter on, it is within 1/4 inch of mounting bolt. You can't get R134 fill connector on. Is there some other adapter or is my compressor mounted incorrectly. I can't seem to clock it any other way and have the hoses bolt on..

90 deg adapters are available at local parts stores. Just be sure to remove the schrader valve from the r12 fitting or you will end up with double schraders.
