I'm looking for a 1974 washer pump, the whole unit including the backing plate everything is attached to. ZIP sells units for 68-73 and 75-82 but no 74 for about $51.00. Anybody have a source of any ideas on what's different? I tried the local Advanced Auto and they just have rebuild kits. Any info would be appreciated!!
74's are not different. I would see what a 73 and a 75 unit looks like and compare. Most places sell rebuild kits for them also. I just did my 69 which is a one year only pump but a later one would fit. I used parts out of a new one to rebuild my original one. It is not aseassy as it appears at first glance. ;)
Find a AC Delco jobber, they sell a complete washer pump with the small parts that go with the drive portion of the windshield wiper motor assembly. I bought one a couple of years ago for about thirty dollars, the only problem is the pump assembly is black. The pump is still available from the general I believe but the cost is much more (it's black also).
I ended up rebuilding my pump with a kit I bought from Pep Boys, it worked out good and it retained the white color.
So it looks like you have a choice, rebuld yours or buy a black pump assembly.
