Default 73 Flywheel

How many teeth on a 73 Flywheel? (Muncie 4 speed transmission) 153 or 168?. The piņon on the old GM starter has 10 teeth. Staggered bolt pattern. The one i received has eleven teeth. Will it work?

Number of teeth on the starter has no effect whether it will fit on the 153 or 168 tooth flywheel/flexplate. The starter mounting position on the engine block locates it properly.

I changed from the 168 tooth to a 153 tooth flywheel and used the same mini-starter...simply moved the starter bolts to the inner set of holes. And then I shimmed the starter for the required flywheel to pinion clearance for this starter.

The staggered bolt pattern on the starter is used with a 168 tooth flywheel/flexplate; the inline bolt pattern is used with a 153 tooth flywheel or flexplate.
