Default 1982 Corvette Speedometer

Hi,

I'm new on this forum and not that new to Corvettes. I'm the owner of a performance shop, but usually work on C5-C6 Corvettes.

I'm working on a personal vehicle that I'm fixing. My current problem is with the speedometer, first it was not working at all and we replaced the lower cable and the transducer. Now it works, but it shows an extra 10mph and also when I go to a full stop it stays in 10-15mph.

After I turn it off and wait maybe an hour or so, the speedo goes back to 5mph. It never goes to the bottom as I have seen in many pictures, always start at 5mph.

I have read about changing the gears on the transmision to fix the extra mph, but I don't think this is the case with this one.

Any ideas?

Sounds like a gauge problem to me. The transmission gears basically change how fast the cable goes. In other words, if your indicated speed is incorrect, you'll need to change gears.

Ditto on the gauge issue. You can get a replacement Speedo from one of the major Vendors. You will also have the option of a 160 mph or even a 240 mph Speedo as well.
