Default universal joints

so the u joints on my half shafts of my '82 are pretty well frozen in there so i searched online for anytips to get them out, has anyone noticed the amount of people that beat the sh** out of their driveshaft to get the old u joints out? Do they not understand the purpose of a balanced rotating shaft? I know the drive shafts or tought and its one thing to beat on the old u joint cause you are going to replace it, beating the shaft with a hammer and ratchets or taking a dremel to it then welding it...really?! and people wonder why im scared to let anyone else work on my car....

Yup, had to use the neighbors 8inch vise to fit the sockets in there. And don't forget the torch, that helped also.

cut the cross out with a die grinder or a torch then press the caps out with a vice and socket. May need to heat the thing a bit but it will come.

Tighten the joint in the vice and bang the vice, not the joint, with a hammer. Tighten a bit more and bang again. Repeat the process until the caps come out. This worked for me on my 35 year old joints.
