Well, I rented a projector and I buried it in my dash. But then I had a hard time getting my gauges to work, not to mention repairing the ten inch by eight inch hole in my dash. Then, the bulb got so hot, it melted my A-pillars and put a blue smoke mark on the windshield where the images should be. I also blew out the electrical system, trying to get enough AC juice to the projector. The nice thing, though, is that the D/C to A/C converter I used had a spare plug, so now the C3 has an outlet just like that spiffy new Pontiac, you know, the Aztec's little sister.
Finally concluding the projector wouldn't work, I duct taped over the hole the projector left, and I switched to a Viewmaster. For now, I have it mounted on the top rim of the steering wheel. So when I want to see how fast I'm going, or what I'm taching out at, I have to press my head against the steering wheel and flip the lever real fast. I have a progression of gauge photos, so if I concentrate really hard, it looks like they are moving.
I promise all of you, the production model will be a Viewmaster Deluxe with sound. As you flip the lever, the visions of gauges will be accompanied by a voice yelling "Whoa Partner! Not too fast!" or "You da Man!"
Also, the Viewmaster will be paintable to match your interior. I will not force Viewmaster red on my customers. That's the kind of guy I am.
a couple of my first posts were about HUDs, then the reality of getting my baby on the road set in. HUD is on the way back burner. there are aftermarket HUDs that looked promising, except the stoopid mylar film you have to stick on the glass
