Default Pulling engine for first time

Pulling the engine and manual trans out of my 79. I've been reading all the posts I can find ( thanks everyone it was extremely helpful) and I'm to the point of unbolting the trans from the crossmember and the motor mounts. My question is a number of posts say to disconnect the slip yoke but I'm not exactly sure how. My shop manual calls for removing the driveshaft, but no one seems to mention that. If you just slide the yoke off as you remove the motor wouldn't you have to tie the drive shaft up and wouldn't that be PITA to line up when putting it back in?
Thanks in advance for all or your help

Remove the driveshaft. If you didnt drain the trans fluid you need to plug the rear of the trans or you will make a huge mess. Maybe it's just me but I always forget one ground line which keeps it from coming out the first time. ANd don't forget to remove your dist unless you want to buy new parts for it. Have fun!

Thanks, After all the warnings I triple checked all the grounds. Dist cap was the first thing that came off.

Not the cap, the whole distributor. It's even more exposed to damage now, without the cap on it, especially if you are removing the engine and tranny as one unit. If you are careful, you'll probably be OK, but it's going to come out, anyway, right? So why chance it? Good luck!

Keep the shiny side up!

And the engine mounts (on the pass side don't forget to install the through bolt with the nut towards the pump so you can change the Mont without needing to remove the pump like me), fuelpump and check starter - flexplate (or whatever applies to a manual) clearance too.

You disconnect the U Joint from the slip yoke. Just let the driveshaft droop out of the way on the rear crossmember.
