Default Front Brake bleeder question

I just put on a new front caliper. The caliper has the brake line and the bleeder nipple on the same caliper half.. the inside. No other plugs on the outter half. How do you get the air out of the outter half? Will gravity bleeding eventually work? I had my 8yr old pump the peddle while I opened and closed the bleeder but with both on the same caliper half I don't think I got all the air out of the outer half.. Thought?

Just did mine last week, no problem. I wondered why the back caliper needs a bleeder on each half, but the front only needs one. I guess the internal passages are different angles. Anyway, mine bled out quickly with no problems. Been driving it every day since :D and the brakes are still rock hard. Good luck! :seeya

The front calipers only have one bleeder (don't know why)...

After you bleed it the first time, you might want to tap it gently with a small piece of wood or plastic hammer then bleed it again. This will help get the residual air bubbles off of the new caliper so they will come out when you bleed 'em.

Yeah,
I think they are designed so that both halves get bled with the one screw. In some of the catalogs (ie Mid-America) they have pictures of the halves taken apart and you can see a fluid passage on the top and bottom of the caliper. They should bleed fine. I am also perplexed as to why the rear calipers have two bleeders, I think it's because of the angle they sit at when they're on the car.

PS thanks for the advice on my squeaking post! :yesnod:

Good advice. I thought I was done with my front, and went once more just for good measure, but tapped it with a rubber mallet first. Bubbles, bubbles, bubbles, fluid. Ahh..

koz,
I bleed before every race, and my fluid costs as if it was liquid gold. I use the rubber mallet at every corner and while I am not endorsing it I have seen guys unbolt rear calipers and point both bleeders straight up to attempt to get all the air out. ...redvetracr
