BUT, right after I put the final touch on, I cranked it up and the intake manifold gasket started leaking water and steam on the drivers' side top of the manifold. Now I got to pull the manifold, distributor, etc. and get oil and sweat on everything! :cry
Hey at least it will be nice and clean for the tear down and you'll be able to do even more detailing while it's apart!!! (careful tho... people end up doing frame offs that way!!!) :D
JB, I been at this hobby for some decades now...could be much worse man, much worse....
hell the guy at the vette shop here just built a BB engine....and installed it and when fired up knocked like hell....damn VALVE guide binded up....
stupid VALVE guide, damn nearly cost him the engine...machinest on the heads screwed up...valve stuck OPEN....barely kissed the piston....can't win somedaze...

Oh, yeah, I know. Just bitchin'. I'm actually kind of looking forward to it--it's the kind of project I think I can actually handle without screwing up, unlike some of the things that can go wrong with these cars!

JB-
Looks great!
What did you use to "freshen up" the wiper door actuator, or did you replace it??
I cleaned it up with simple green, then sprayed it lightly with gold chrome paint followed by a light coat of silver chrome paint. Came surprisingly close to that greeny-goldish-brassy color of the original (compare to the new cover on the master cylinder in the pic).
What did you use to clean up the chrome valve covers, etc?
NeverDull. And they look pretty good, sitting in a box on a shelf in my garage. :jester
Those are new repros. The Neverdull couldn't quite get the originals as shiny as I'd like--I'm going to get 'em rechromed, but until I get around to it, I've put the repros on.
Really looks nice! Chrome valve covers are on my shopping list.... somewhere down there! :) You might want to get some nice shiny braided bigblock sparkplug wires. AC Delco still makes em, or you can get the dated repros for a little more.
I see you went with the original style air cleaner lid with the decals. (wingnut on there? cant tell) looks very nice. You probably just added $5k to the value of your car by detailing the engine compartment!! :) MJ
