Default Electric fan questions?

I am looking into getting an electric fan for my 69 350/350 with 4-speed, and was wondering if I should go with dual fans or a single fan. If I go with a single fan, what would be the biggest one that I could install? I was thinking about maybe a 16"??? One more before I go, which is best a pusher or puller? Thanks in advance.

If you are not running A/C The Dual Flex a Lite Fans should work great on a SMB. See my sig and you can see the red fans on my BB. I had to remove the Flex a Lite from my BB with A/C would not cool well enough. I went back to the stock set-up. I am selling the fans if you are interested $175.00 plus shipping still have the orginal box.

I will be running A/C, will the 16" provide enough cooling?

Steve Adkins-I'm using a stock dual fans from a '95 Camaro Z28 (LT1). I had to shave a little off the frame of the fans and it's tight around the A arms, but it works. You can see more on my web page.

And pullers get more CFM of air flow through the radiator.

I bought a 16" fan last night at a local speed shop and it puts out 2800 cfm and can be wired as a pusher or puller. What kind of wiring set up are you guys with electric fans doing?

I started out with the Flex-a-Lite wiring and controler that came in the kit with my dual Flex-a-Lite model 210. After having problems with the temp sensor in the kit, I swaped in a Painless wiring kit that has a temp bulb to control the operation of the fans. I put the temp bulb in the water outlet neck using a neck that was threaded for vacuum switches. Use heavy gage wire running directly to the battery or the back of the alternator. These things pull a lot of amperage and you have to keep them fed.
Overall I liked the Flex-a-Lite controllers ability to turn on the fans anytime the A/C is running, but the Painless kit is more compact and has been much more reliable.
If you check the locations of the people that love or hate electric fans you will see that they are fine up in the frozen North but less so as the sig addresses move South.
I would toss out the electric fans and go back to the engine driven fan, but I'm addicted to the quick revving of the motor without the drag of an engine driven fan. Who wants to go anywhere in July anyway? :jester

You allways want a puller, as that allows more exposure to the radiator for max air velocity at speed...better cooling....
I run fine with a ~375-400 hp SB and a late 80's F body radiator and a single 16" '87 vette type electric fan...just adapt it into the shroud, and everything's fine...seal it all up appropriately...

I would make NO guarantees about a 'stock type' brass radiator...IMO they don't cool worth a damn after first year/operation....

Got the fan installed and I am really impressed with the amount of air this thing moves. Now all I have to do is find a good switch/thermostat that turns this thing on and off at a certain temp. Any suggestions?

What brand/model number did you buy? How did you install it? Pictures?

glen242,
I bought it from a local performance shop here in Knoxville TN and he told me it was a Be Cool performance. As far as the installation goes, I made some brackets and bolted them into the existing holes in the elec fan shroud and drilled holes in the top and bottom of the radiator and bolted it right up. I sloted the holes in the fan side of the bracket so I could adjust the fan about 1/4" from the radiator. I took some pics, but I need to get them developed. I will probably do that tonight. I will also check the model #.
