Recently bought a 82 with 78k miles. Finally an owner of my dream car!
I have read several post about restoring valve cover on here, but I need some advice.
So far I have used aircraft paint stripper which worked pretty good.
I took my pressure washer along with that stripper and the paint roooooolled right off
I still have some work to do on them to get them smooth and I still have some small chips of black and white paint in the fins.
Someone told me to use a SOS pad or Brillo pad.,Sound like a good or bad Idea?
Also are the 1982 cover mag. or alum. ?
Will Mag polish like alum?
Well I ended up taking them to a local body shop and got them bead blasted.
Saw some cool ideas to make them custom looking.....heres what I came home with
Hydro dipped.........they have all sort of graphics to choose from.
I liked the carbon fiber look. Thinking of maybe doing the air cleaner housing next?
They powder coated mine before they were dipped....
The guys who did mine told me no matter what, I needed to get them powder coated anyway. Its more durable than heat paint. I know there probably more advantages also.
Im sure others on here will tell you the same.
