I've got a neighbor down the street with an all original 71 lt1 convt (very sweet car). He's got the original water pump but its busted. Does anyone know if anyone sells a rebuild kit? Or an original water pump? He's a pretty good shadetree and he'd like to rebuild it himself but he can't find a kit or info anywhere? Any advice is appreciated.
Water pumps are difficult to rebuild. They require a press and you have to machine up some fixtures to do everything right. It is very easy to damage the seals while you press everything back together. Also easy to crack the housing if the fixtures aren't just right.
Arthur Gould specializes in rebuilding vintage waterpumps and is a favorite of the NCRS crowd.

John Pirkle and his son John Jr. (of alternator restoration fame) are also getting into water pump rebuilding I believe.

I think your friend will be pleased choosing either of these two businesses to rebuild his water pump... I know that I wouldn't have any reservations dealing with either one of them.
He'd never heard of the forum before and besides he's not as geeky as I am. Maybe this will help prompt him. Although I've already got one friend on the forum I'd hate to have too many people who know all the stupid things I do :D
