CFI to carb ignition problem
I used the factory connector that went into the 7 pin module dizzy and hooked it up too the vac advance with the 5 pin module..
What do I need to do to eliminate the retard in the 5 pin module and does the large flat 4 wire connector need any modifications?
Thanks

Why are you using the 5-terminal module (unless it was free)? IIRC, pulling the R terminal to battery (through a resistor for safety) will disable the retard function.
Is the distributor in good shape? The two wires from the pickup coil fatigue (and break) after a lot of years of the VA plate rotating and flexing these wires. Perhaps a test with a timing light. Rev the engine with and without the vacuum advance hooked up, and see if the timing fluctuates erratically in either situation.
I don't remember the visual details of the module connectors. As long as the labeling of the module pins matches the function of the wire there should be no problem.
Are you certain that the fueling system is operating properly (no lean issues)?
Let us know what you find out.
I had a timing light on it and it moves like it should when reving the motor, The carb is not the issue I have a wideband installed and its not going too rich or lean, Also after I did the carb swap I drove on the factory crossfire distributor and it ran fine.
I noticed that with the 5 pin module if I disconnect the EST the car won't start.. I also had to advance the timing quiet a bit too get the car too idle, I think this is because its pulling 10 degrees out.
Im fine with buying a 4 pin module, W and G terminals hook up too the pick up around the distributor shaft right? C too coil and B too 12v?

I do better with pictures
btw, you can use this to convert any module based and some points based dist. to chevy hei, I've mounted them on ford fenders and toyota valve covers.
hope this helps
