I have a one wire alternator, I also have a msd box and I am having run on issues. because this is a one wire alternator, where do I install the diode? I recall it can be installed on a red wire or I need to install a ballist resistor,
You can't install a diode but it wouldn't help anyways. The basic idea behind the diode is that the field terminal, or the terminal that the idiot light connects to is connected to internally to 12V when the alternator is on. So, when you turn the key off, power flows backwards from the field terminal through the idiot light and into the switched power circuit on the car which keeps powering the MSD box. The 1-wire doesn't have the light so it's not the problem.
What else have you got in there that could keep power on the MSD box? Electric fan powered off the key?
is your 'one wire' wired direct to battery or is it wired to an amp-meter then the battery?
you're backfeeding...somewhere, what else do you have hooked up?

when I originally installed the alternator, I used the same red wire that went to the original alternator to this one.. I have no electric fan, the only other acc I have his an electric pump and a stereo amp
the best thing, with out seeing your setup, is to make sure every aftermarket item you have in the system is hooked to switched hot
an example would be the prev. posters question about an electric fan. If it were hooked to constant 12v , untill it stopped spinning , it would be a small generator that would back feed the ign.
your pump or other product would do the same if not on a switched hot
ok, just finished the ballist installation, and so far no more run on.. but I will be convinced it's really gone after a week of driving with no issues.
thanks everyone for the input, really appreciate it..
