My '72 BB just passed the Illinois sniff test !!! I was kinda worried, had heard some horror stories ... anyway here is the story:
Hydrocarbons (PPM) Standard = 800, My Vette = 214
Carbon Monoxide (%) Standard = 8.0, My Vette = 1.4
Before the test, I replaced plugs, points, wires and blocked off the vacuum system at the check valve ( because I've a small leak somewhere and it cause a rough idle). I also adjusted the carb using a vacuum gauge which worked out great ! I was kinda worried about the BB, but it passed with flying colors.
how many years to those nitwits go back up there??? a '72??? that's 30 friggin years for christsakes....!!!

'67 and newer...
Congrats! So just how long do you have before you have to take it again?

2 years in Illinois
Do they do a visual inspection? Some states make you have the original equipment (or replacement) for emmissions. You might have to have at least hollow CATS if they get pickey with you. Can't hurt to check.
Congrats sray... not lookin forward to my day at the sniffer. Cats all gone and I don't care!!!

I went to the one in Lincolnshire, and watched what they did:
1. Checked gas cap
2. 2 different sniff tests
3. some kind of noise / vibration test ( I asked what it was, but couldn't understand the severly broken english answer I got)
They never opened the hood
They never looked under ( but I'm not supposed to have cats )
Sweet - congrats on passing! I was worried about my '71 454 but she has passed every time (3 times now since I've owned her). My last one I did in Crystal Lake, and they used a mirror to look under the car all the way around. They also checked the gas cap but didn't do the vibration test (?).
Oh, and I haven't had to do anything special to get her to pass, she's just a natural :D .
Maybe I'll see you around at some of the local cruise nights...

I know you - from Tri-Power !!! ... btw .. the Stars and Stripes now has some 40-50 Vettes for the Milwaukee to Gurnee cruise ... care to join ???
No, i've had it about 3 yrs now. I checked the locations of the test places and they are all in the Chicago area or down around St. Louis. Maybe this is why i've never been tested or know anyone that has ever been tested. I'm not complaining :blueangel:

Yup, that's me. :D
I wish I could do the Stars & Stripes, but I will have some family in town at that time. I might be able to get them to go with me to the Gurnee Mickey Ds on Friday night, though...
