I have redone the inside and out got all my lights working blinkers working but when i turn the key over i have nothing. The distributor isn't in time. This is a project someone else started and i am trying to get it going. It's an early 68 with a 427. When i first got everything going i smoked the amp gauge, forgot to hook up the wire from the starter to the horn relay. I show i have power to the starter, alternator, voltage regulator and horn relay. I have had the ignition out and best i can tell everything is hooked up. there are two brown wires one large and one small and i cant find a place for the large one. Any advice good or bad i would appreciate.
Trying to understand your post, you first state when you turn the key nothing and then in the next sentence you state the distributor isnt in time. So which is it the engine turns over and doesnt start or you have nothing? Is this an automatic or manual? If manual and nothing happens did you check the switch on the clutch pedal?
I have nothing when i turn the key over. It's a manual transmission. I have wiring diagram. The disributor isn't in time cause the engine was rebuilt. I have researched everything i have done. Not blind at all been rewiring freight liners for 3 years but this is a new ball game and usually i am the one taking it apart not putting someone else's back together. Haven't had much experience in the motor department. Wiring and body work mostly
I will assume you are talking about the ignition coil? The positive side of the coil has a double wire attached to it. With the key on the on position you should read full battery voltage. While cranking you will get a slightly lower reading. The negative side of the coil should go to the distributor points. The capacitor is only for radio interference, leave it off till you get the car running.
I sent some pics don't know if they got thru are not but i made an album on my user cp if that helps anyone. Thanks for the advice so far and sorry for all the confusion. Not knowing the right questions to ask is frustrating in it's self, not to mention i have printed enough stuff about C-3 corvettes to make a tree.
^ Good advice on the wiring diagram. Where are your brown wires? Post a pic.
The brown wire is by the ignition. Took the dash back apart and found i had a brown & white wire hooked to my ignition switch capacitor, why i smoked my amp gauge i suppose. I also found a flat black and brown wire unhooked and in the process tore the wire out of the capacitor....can this be soldered back?
So it sounds as though the Engine is still not turning over. I would work on that first. You can buy a Test switch that has 2 leads that go on the small Wires on the Starter Motor. When you Hit the switch the Starter should crank. A more crude way is to just jump them with a screwdriver. If it Cranks then there is something disconected leading to the Key and or a bad switch etc. If it dosn't crank then there is a bad Positive Wire to the Battery, a bad Ground or no Ground Wire, or a bad Battery or the Starter is shot.

I cleaned my grounds and my hot wire was in pretty bad shape on the end. I cut as much off as i could to be able to get to good wire but it needs replaced. I can get the starter to fire but it doesn't engage to the flywheel. I don't have any idea if it was shimmed or not. I have my ignition switch out now and can't get it to go back in all the way. It will turn over and back but it likes about and 8th or better of being flush. Replaced the turn switch when i was messing with all that guess i need to take it back apart and see if i have left something out. I will try jumping across the solenoid here after while. She looks good i just need her to breath lol.
