Default Super Light Door

Has anyone ever built up a super light door starting with a door skin and adding pieces from a donor door? I need to lighten a 1978 for the 1/4 mile drags.

Install 68-72 doors; they don't have side impact crash bars.

Default Super Light Door

Thanks Mike, but if I can't get a 68 to 72 door, can I remove the bar in my 78? Also, I assume the 68 to 72 door has power windows which would weigh more than a manual door. If so, I'd like to save some more weight and convert to manual. More weight might be saved by converting to lexan or plexiglass windows all around? What do you think?

I'm pretty sure BeeJay removed the crash beams in his 79. Might wanna look through his old posts.

Not necessarily. Power windows were optional. Most 68-72s had roll up windows.

If you need roll up windows, get some original 1980-82 windows... they are a few lbs lighter than the earlier glass. I also lightened my window regulators by drilling holes in them (idea credit to Bee Jay).

I have a set of manual regulators out of my '69 for sale if you are interested

When the doors on my 71 were gutted they were really light. It's surprising how much window tracks, P/W motor, glass and door panels all add up to be.

I'm new to Corvette Forum. Could you tell me how I could read someone's old posts?

Yes, I am interested. What do you need for them and what is the next step if I do buy them?
